October 11th, 2005, 10:35am
At Kamijo's home, Mokutaro Shiroyabu finishes reading Kamijo's letter, which ends by saying that there is a key hidden in his stomach, leading to a hidden room inside a shelter in his backyard. Shinko Kuroyanagi responds with annoyance, and tells Shiroyabu to have the coroner bring them the key from Kamijo's autopsy. Shiro receives a call from the coroner, Hirooka, who tells him that the key has been located and is on its way. In the garden, the group locate a hatch with a key hole. Kuroyanagi notes that Uehara seems to be sensitive to the mention of a "shelter". A bike courier, Takahashi, arrives to deliver the key to Kuroyanagi. She hands the key over, and demands 12,000 yen as payment. They open the hatch, and react with exasperation to the giant collection of keys they find inside.

01:15pm
At the Heinous Crimes Unit office, the group go over Kamijo's personal life, and that there were no signs that would typically lead to suicide. Hatoba breaks up an argument between Kuro and the other members, Akama and Aoyama, and tells them to remain vigilant against thoughtless crime. He notes that Kamijo was skilled and possessed exceptional criminal power, and that just because he is dead doesn't mean his power dissipated. They go on to discuss that the Postal Federation is likely involved after having previously been put into action at the Bayside Towerland Apartments. Shiroyabu feels that there must be some connection between Kamijo and the deliverymen. Hatoba sends Akama and Aoyama to investigate Kamijo's workplace, and Kuro and Shiro to find the key to the shelter. He officially welcomes Uehara as a new member, and assigns him to Kuro and Shiro. He personally notes that Uehara feels familiar to him somehow. Shiro tells Uehara to visit Hirooka for the analysis of the keys, while they go to check out the shelter again.

01:50pm
At the Forensic Medical Center, Hirooka bemoans having to analyze a thousand keys, and questions if Kamijo is really just a key collector. He comments on his own collection and fascination with snuff films. He says that one of the keys goes with a more recent model of locker that can be found within the 25th Ward, and sends Uehara away with it.

03:22pm
At the Central Station Coin Lockers, Shiro meets up with Uehara, having been delayed by Kuroyanagi wanting to get a facial because of how dirty it was in the shelter. They open the locker and find another key, along with a photo of a woman. Kuro arrives, and says that Kamijo is playing a game with them before launching into a profanity-laded tirade against Shiro. After Uehara sends the photo in for analysis, Kuro theorizes that Kamijo is a tabletop gamer, and is running this as if it were a game. She says that she knows where the key leads to and tells them to go with her.

03:50pm
The group arrive at a building containing a manga cafe. Kuro greets the manager Fukamichi, who is familiar with her and addresses her as "Chloe". Fukamichi directs them to the room for the key, which belongs to a user known as "GLG" or "Good Looking Guy". By signing into the sex chat with Kamijo's handle, they discover a live feed showing a room with another key on a table. Kuro instructs Shiro to send an image of the room to Takahashi, and have her check it out. Shiro says that according to Hirooka, Takahashi is able to find a location with her territory of the city by the "flow of the air". Once Takahashi arrives, Kuro taunts her over the chat. She says that she is able to see Kuro from the room, which is revealed to be right across from where they are. Kuro concludes that Kamijo was an exhibitionist who enjoyed being watched, including during his public suicide. Fukamichi says that Kamijo had reserved the room three years in advance, but hardly ever showed. Shiro goes to the room and retrieves the key, and finds yet another photograph. Takahashi tells him that she knows of a better way to get the key analyzed. She hands over multiple keys, which she says are needed to meet the appraiser.

05:13pm
Shiro and Uehara arrive at a convenience store to search for the key appraiser. A clerk directs them to the back, giving them a long list of directions to follow. After progressing through a maze-like pathway and using the keys, Shiro finally reaches a restroom where he speaks to the appraiser, Okamoto. After a moment, he directs them to the key's destination.

October 12th, 2005, 10:44am
The investigators reach an apartment, which contains another key and photo. Kuro recognizes it as a car key, for a model of car that she saw while working a part-time job at a booth show. The two point out that the building feels devoid of any sign of families living there, and Kuro concludes that it is a "leftover" building only housing single women, serving as a modern-day brothel. They locate the car in the garage, which automatically navigates to a new location.

12:30pm
They eventually arrive in the Kanto suburbs, where there are plans to construct the 26th Ward. Inside of a seaside house, they find a girl that Kuro calls "Machiko". The name is really code for her occupation, a "contract lodger", who signs an agreement to live a domestic life with someone. Machiko's role is to wait at the home for when Kamijo visits. Kuro tells Machiko that she doesn't have to wait anymore, but she says that she is already aware that he died, and that Kamijo said to wait for the detectives to arrive. She reveals that Kamijo was the first diver, the overseers of the Postal Federation's deliverymen, who receive special training as hitmen. Five years ago, Kamijo carried out a series of assassinations against people that issues complaints to the postal service. The process of becoming a diver resulted in the erasure of Kamijo's identity, for which he received a large sum of money. He used the money to purchase Machiko to be someone to "come home" to. Despite this, Machiko says that Kamijo was never physical with her. The Postal Federation had plans to kill Kamijo to cover up their activities. Machiko tells them that before his death, Kamijo said that he planned to meet with the building administrator of the high-rise apartments. Machiko says that Kamijo left her with instructions to "believe in the one who doesn't smile". Kuro inquires about Machiko's origin, and she reveals that she is from the Shelter. Kuro comforts Machiko, telling her that she's from the Shelter too, and takes away the gun that Machiko was holding.

03:28pm
At the Seaside Park, Kuro and Shiro discuss the nature of the case, and that Kamijo led them on a path to discover photos of the women he killed as a diver to bring his crimes to light. The people were all killed over submitting minor complaints to the postal service. Kuro says that their next goal is investigating the missing building administrator. She says that Kamijo's suicide and the investigation was orchestrated by him to protect Machiko. Shiro questions what the Shelter is, but Kuroyanagi brushes him off.

At the house in the suburbs, an unseen person rings the doorbell, and is welcomed home by Machiko.
