Kess BloodySunday
Kess BloodySunday (ケス • ブラディサンデー, Kesu Buradisande) is one of the many Remnant Psyches present throughout killer7. He mainly serves as a guide to the boss sections of the game, giving out hints on how to defeat upcoming bosses, but does, on rare occasion, reveal things about himself.
Appearance and Personality
Kess appears as a young boy sporting a green and white striped shirt stained with blood, with dark grey shorts and white shoes. He has short, strawberry blonde hair, with glowing white eyes, even in the dark, and his mouth is always open as if constantly screaming. In some cutscenes, you can see his skull is visible through his head. This is unique to him and does not happen to nor appear in other remnants.
Kess is cryptic in his dialogue. He often describes things in unconventional ways or even lies to your face for the majority of his hint (such as the dialogue before the Phantom Smile fight). Despite this, he tends to be afraid of whatever he has encountered, although will occasionally insult the enemy or egg on the player to kill said enemy. From dialogue, he is perceptive, noticing Hiroyasu Kurahashi’s tie being crooked, or the Backside Smile’s weakpoint on its back.
Hand in killer7 and Johnny Gagnon’s letters mentions Kess having ‘murderous tendencies’ and a proficiency with explosives.
Abilities
Kess consistently appears before the Heaven Smiles bossfights in Vinculum Gate and normal bossfights, such as Angel, to give you hints on how to defeat them. This information is implied to come from his constant nightmares, but it is unclear if this information comes from an ability that lets him look into the future, or his nightmares conveniently match up with the upcoming fights.
History
Kess BloodySunday was, according to Hand In killer7, killed sometime in 1978 by the Killer7 due to orders from the head of the company Kess’s father worked at. Unusually, the Killer7 were reluctant to kill him, but followed through in the end, causing Kess to assimilate into the Smith Syndicate as a Remnant Psyche.
However, Kess in game states that he was killed by a "three-eyed monster", assumed to be Emir Parkreiner, which contradicts with the infomation above.
Trivia
Kess’s last name, BloodySunday, can refer to a multitude of events of the same name, with a majority originating from Ireland. The most notorious, and some argue the origin of his name, is the 1972 Bloody Sunday incident, or the Bogside Massacre, where British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians, 14 of which died, during a protest march.
