Heaven Smiles
This page is about the enemy and its variants, the Heaven Smiles. This (currently) does not cover the history of the Smiles or the terrorist group of a similar name, the latter which you can visit at Heaven Smile.
Heaven Smiles (ヘヴンスマイル, Hevunsumairu) are the main threats faced in killer7. They appear in every level of the game, including as multiple variants and bossfights, particularly in the Vinculum Gate.
Appearance and Personality
The typical Heaven Smile is humanoid in appearance, with varying degrees of skin colours and textures, but is commonly depicted with a red/purple skin with paint splatter patterns. Their mouths, lined with sharp teeth, are stuck in an inhuman, open-mouth smile with eyes comprised of dark red sclera and white irises.
Abilities
All Heaven Smiles carry two abilities: They are invisible to the naked human eye due to their urban camoflague, only revealed by the Vision Ring in game, and they are hardwired to attack nearby people and kill them by blowing themselves up. According to Iwazaru, the latter is achieved by bombs within their bodies. Some Smile Variants possess extra abilities to get to their targets more efficiently, defend themselves from attackers, or use an entirely different method to kill their target such as Laser or Galatic Tomahawk Smiles.
Creation Methods
Heaven Smiles can come from three different origins:
- Humans turned into Smiles, typically via the God Hand
- Created via flesh/organs, supplied by various organ traders such as Curtis Blackburn
- Duplicated by Duplicator or Mother Smiles
There are no differences between the Smiles created by any of these methods, but Duplicator/Mother Smiles seem to be limited to producing Heaven Smiles without any abilities.
Variants
The following are listed in order of appearance in game, including Vinculum Gate Smiles, and cover every named variant of the Heaven Smile.
Camellia
Indicated by their red-on-white splatter pattern, Camellia Smiles twitch in place until shot, where they will attempt to flee while screaming. If you successfully kill them before they kill themselves or hit their weakpoint, you are rewarded with lots of Thick Blood.
Camellias are considered traitors to Kun Lan and the Heaven Smile organisation, which is pointed out by Iwazaru, and are implied to have once been humans turned into these Smiles for their betrayal.
Duplicator
Duplicators are very large, stationary Smiles that produce more Heaven Smiles to ‘clamp down’ on areas of interest. They have large yellow or red weakpoints of varying numbers all over their sprawling body, which all need to be taken out to kill them and stop the production of more Smiles.
Egg
Produced by Duplicator and Mother Smiles. An egg with purple splatters that roll towards its target, but hatches into a fully grown Heaven Smile when close or shot.
Micro
A very small Smile with two canisters on its back and abnormally large hands reminiscent of wings. It will idle in circles until it notices you, where it will fly towards you and blind you for a brief period if not taken out in one shot. Depending on what colour it is, it can grant two different rewards to the player: Yellow and Black means it will fully heal all Smiths and awaken any personalities still asleep, while Blue and Red means it will give a large amount of Thick Blood.
Runner
A variant of the Heaven Smile that runs to instead of walking to their target.
Speed
Exclusive to Target00: Angel’s Vinculum Gate, the Speed Smile violently jerks its body around to avoid having its weakspot on its head hit. This can be countered by shooting its body to stagger it, giving a short window to accurately shoot the weakpoint.
Bombhead
A Smile with a cage-like device on its head that opens and closes periodically. Shooting its head while the cage is closed will cause it to explode and kill anything nearby, including Smiths, due to its higher than average damage. You can shoot off its limbs like any other Smile, however.
Spiral
An orange ball that possesses multiple Heaven Smile heads. Spirals roll forth slowly, playing a jingle, and can only be killed by shooting the head highlighted with a green outline.
Flower
Similar to a Camellia Smile, but yellow and aggressive. Gives lots of Thin Blood and bursts into petals on defeat.
Another
A Smile that crawls on the ceiling until close or shot, where it then scrambles towards you on all fours.
Phantom
A Smile that is dark red in colouration, and instantly teleports to you and explodes if hit. This can be avoided by hitting its weakpoint, a visibly enlarged feature like a hand or head, which kills it.
Diver
A Smile with two canisters in its back. Drops down from above when you enter certain areas and becomes aggressive.
Poison
A bulkier Smile with a cloudy, purple aura. Rises back up if not killed via its weakpoint, even if a lot of damage is dealt via Mask de Smith's grenades or Dan Smith's Charge Shot.
Mother
A Smile with elongated arms, shrunken legs, tentacles and a large weakpoint. Similar in function to a Duplicator, where it endlessly produces Egg/Heaven Smiles. Unlike the Duplicator, shooting the Mother Smile outside of its weak point will make it move towards you.
Backside
A floating red Smile with no legs and black, sharp armour. Backsides are invulnerable in the front, but have a yellow weakpoint on their back. Shooting its arm armour enough will cause it to turn it around, exposing its weakpoint.
Ulmeyda
Not to be confused with Andrei Ulmeyda or his Heaven Smile form.
Exclusive to Target02: Cloudman, Ulmeyda Smiles are passive, running about with a Texas Bronco T-Shirt. Gives coins and Thin Blood by shooting its shirt, but becomes aggressive if you shoot elsewhere on its body.
Giant
Exclusive to Target02: Cloudman, the Giant Smile is a very tall, invulnerable Heaven Smile with only one eye. Shooting its blinking eye will kill it, but letting it fall to the ground also works.
Protector/Protector Z/Protector ZZ
Protector Smiles are abnormally muscular Smiles with metallic armour and slow movement. They can only be defeated by MASK de Smith's various grenades. Protector Smiles can be taken out with normal grenades, Protector Z Smiles with Shock Shells, and ZZ Smiles with Focus Shells.
Broken
A Smile with a large metal jet on its back that accelerates towards targets in a zigzag pattern.
Ceramic
Exclusive to Target03: Encounter Part 1, and not in Vinculum Gate, the Ceramic Smile is a Smile with blue armour whose heart in the middle of his chest acts as a weakpoint. The Ceramic Smile runs around the circular room, and if he sees you, he’ll turn around and run the other way. Running up to him will result in him exploding and killing you.
Mithril
Introduced in Target03: Encounter Part 1’s Vinculum Gate, Mithril Smiles have metal body armour protecting it, much like Poison Smiles. You can break its armour by shooting it enough, unlike Poison Smiles.
Laser
Introduced In Target03: Encounter Part 2's Vinculum Gate, Laser Smiles are blue Heaven Smiles strapped to a slab of metal while wearing unusual goggles. They charge up and shoot a beam of light that deals lethal damage to most Smiths (assuming you aren’t wearing the Power Ring). It is possible to dodge the beam instead of having to kill the Laser Smile. [1]
Roller
Exclusive to Target04: Alter Ego, Roller Smiles are purple Heaven Smiles that will curl up into a circle and roll towards its targets, making them much quicker than most other Smiles.
Timer
Exclusive to Target05: Smile, Part 1’s Vinculum Gate, the Timer Smile is a slow, dark pale green Smile covered in red bumps of varying sizes. Shooting all of these bumps will kill it, but when only one bump remains it will charge at you, becoming much faster.
Galactic Tomahawk
Exclusive to Target05: Smile, Part 2’s Vinculum Gate, the Galactic Tomahawk Smile is orange/yellow in appearance, being the upper half of a Heaven Smile fused with a pile of, presumably deceased, Smiles below its hips. It does not (and presumably cannot) move. The Galactic Tomahawk constantly shoots out missiles at its target instead of approaching them. These missiles can be shot down, but it does not help defeat the Smile.
Black
Exclusive to Target05: Smile, Part 2, Black Smiles are Poison Smiles without an aura that are completely black in appearance, excluding its eyes and teeth. They cannot take any form of damage, except from the Golden Gun. In the Greg Nightmare fight, 7 are summoned, each one picking off a Smith, until Garcian Smith is forced out and shoots the last one with the Golden Gun. In Killer8 difficulty, the last one goes after young Harman Smith instead.
