Sundance Ritz is a character in Flower, Sun, and Rain. She is a member of the Sundance Tribe with knowledge of Lospass Island's dark past.

Appearance and Personality

Ritz is an old woman wearing grey robes. She is mostly seen in a wheelchair, although she is depicted walking with a cane in official art. She has knowledge of the island's past and the fate of her tribe.

History

Backstory

Sundance Ritz was a member of the Sundance Tribe during the genocide and theft of the hyenas carried out by Uminosuke Hachisuka. She personally knew Kamui Uehara and the Eleven Children from their time on the island. She survived the genocide and grew old, being cared for by her nurse Hana Kaburagi. According to Sue Sding, Lady Ritz was "awakened" and "revived" by Mondo learning the secrets of the island, meaning she may have been in some kind of hibernation or dormant state. Hana refers to her as a goddess.

Flower, Sun, and Rain

Ritz first appears in Request 16: Pavane pour une infante défunte, when Sumio Mondo is seemingly teleported to the Marmaleba Ruins by a die given to him by Sundance Shot. She recalls the Eleven Children for Mondo, giving a short description of each. Later her words are relayed to Mondo by Hana, saying that it is a special day and that something important will happen. She appears again at the cottages behind the Hotel Flower, Sun, and Rain, emerging from a swimming pool to speak with Mondo. She tells him to perform the release and wash the island clean, before he is teleported to the ruins again to perform the ritual.

Her final appearance is in Request 17: Kill the Past, when Mondo meets her at the cottage. She discusses the nature of the events on the island, and that they may be someone's dream. She goes over the history of the Sundance Tribe and the genocide, and that the man who attacked them stole their animals, and took the power of God into his eye. She says that the son of that man is now on the island. Mondo asks if she is referring to Kamui, who she says is part of the man. She directs Mondo to Eleki Island to meet the one who will open the path forward.
