Report*1:YUME is the first report of the Placebo story of The Silver Case, and the overall third chapter of the game. Description

YUME follows Tokio's investigation during the events of case#1:decoyman. It introduces the Placebo storyline and many of its recurring characters, as well as Tokio's daily life that makes up much of Placebo. It shows how Tokio came to be involved in the "Kamui Case", and him just starting to unravel the mysteries of Ward 24.

Summary

The chapter opens with Tokio driving his car, speaking directly to the player and asking if they have ever felt like a reject. He says that he used to work as a police reporter, but after something happened that he'd rather not mention, he decided to quit. After this he became a freelance writer and did worthless tabloid work. One day, he received a request by mail to investigate everything related to Kamui Uehara for a large sum of money. He decided to take the deal. Tokio introduces his room at the Typhoon apartment building where he does most of his work. He reads an email from a former acquaintance named Shige, saying that the new millennium is a chance to start fresh and asking for him to pay back 50,000 yen that Tokio borrowed from him. Tokio replies by writing that the end of the millennium is next year, and that he'll pay him back then. Tokio writes in his diary apologizing to Shige, saying that he never plans on paying him back, and re-evaluating their friendship. He introduces his partner, his pet turtle named Red. Tokio comments on the expensive furniture that he regrets buying, and looks at the park outside the window. Tokio promises to continue telling the story of how he became involved with Kamui after a smoke break.

Tokio laments to Red that the job is from his old boss, S. Inohana. He writes that he skimmed over some info on Kamui online. He notes that Kamui's entire existence has been covered up until recently, and that he recently killed two members of the Security Force Republic. He recaps the events so far, including the murder of Yuriko Sonoda and Yuka Kawai following Kamui's escape.

Thursday, April 8, 1999, 5:39AM
Tokio writes that he searched for info until morning, but found almost nothing. He is unable to find any information on Kamui's first crime, or any details of his past. He notes that while in the hospital, Kamui was a model patient and remained in a mostly catatonic state. He decides that to learn more he has to get in contact with someone who has encountered Kamui and survived. He notices the time and decides to call his old coworker Erika Yukawa, and says that he could also use her as a shield. He asks Erika for any information on Kamui to bulk up his report, but she hangs up without replying. Tokio writes that Erika still works at the news agency, and could be useful if he could convince her.

11:37AM
Tokio is awoken by his doorbell ringing, and he yells at whoever is there to go away. He reads an email from Erika, calling him a nuisance for contacting her. In another email, she says that the Heinous Crimes Unit is in charge of the Kamui case, and that it may be possible to get information from them due to the lack of media attention. She recommends talking to Tetsugoro Kusabi, who she says is rather talkative. She says she's helping Tokio only out of her own curiosity, to see if he is still a real journalist.

3:34PM
Outside Precinct 24, Tokio waits for over 30 minutes for Kusabi to show. Kusabi arrives, but remains defensive and dodges the main topic of discussion. He asks Kusabi to give him a chance and to call if he wants to tell him anything.

8:27PM
Tokio emails Inohana, saying that he didn't turn up any information from the HC Unit. He asks Inohana for any directions. He notes that the job is more complicated than he thought.

Tokio reads an email from Inohana, saying that a man named Kaiji Enzawa saw Kamui and to meet with him that afternoon at a cafe called Prussian.

2:49PM
Tokio heads to the location of the meeting in his car.

4:11PM
Tokio arrives late at Prussian, but finds that Enzawa hasn't shown up yet. After ordering a coffee, he notes that the cafe isn't as clean as others and is more like a bar. Enzawa arrives and sits down in front of Tokio. He tells him that he saw Kamui near the Babylon Shopping Center five days prior. Tokio asks what Kamui was like, and Enzawa replies that he looked like the moon. Enzawa tells him that Kamui possesses a terrible creative power that allows him to distort reality, noting that to him Kamui's crimes are like a work of art. Tokio dismisses Enzawa for his admiration of Kamui, and doubts whether he actually met him. He decides that he should check out Babylon anyway, since Red is almost out of food.

Tokio wakes up at home and types a cryptic memo about a woman who died at Babylon, and that he can still hear a voice.

Tokio reads a news update about the murder of Kei Nanami at Babylon. Erika writes to him that she rushed to Babylon after hearing Tokio was there. She heard that he had been rescued by the HC Unit and confirmed it through Kusabi. She asked what he saw at Babylon and to respond when he read the email. Tokio struggles to remember what actually happened that night.

4:11PM
Tokio meets Kusabi and thanks him for taking care of him. Kusabi tells him that Kamui has been taken into custody. He was found in a catatonic state hidden in Ayame Shimohira's art studio. Kusabi asks if he remembers meeting Akira at Babylon, and asks him not to write anything that's been leaked. Tokio is briefly startled by a memory of Akira.

5:57PM
Tokio writes that he still can't wrap his head around what happened at Babylon. He wonders if he may have met Ayame that night. He decides to go to Babylon and try to remember.

6:41PM
On the way to Babylon, Tokio remembers that he was driving that day as well, before his meeting with Enzawa.

7:18PM
At Babylon, he remembers stopping there to get food for Red, and wonders if he met anyone other than Akira that night. He remembers that he had lost his lighter, and met a woman who lit his cigarette and said he was "just like" her.

9:09PM
Tokio pieces together his memory of that night, and believes he didn't actually meet Kamui at Babylon. He tries to go back to sleep, and sees another vision of the girl from Babylon. She asks if he heard her scream that night. An image of her corpse appears, and she says she's inside him. He remembers that he may have met another woman that night, but was in a trance. After he came to, he met Akira, and residual thoughts started speaking inside him.

Midnight, 1:02AM
Tokio writes that he still isn't sure what happened at Babylon, but that he knows something instinctively. He believes that the consciousness of the dead woman flowed into him, causing him to see a vision of Kamui. He sends an email to Erika asking her to look into Ayame and the location of her art studio.

Monday, April 12, 10:45AM
Tokio reads an email from Inohana, telling him to report immediately on what he saw at Babylon. Erika emails him, telling him that Ayame's art studio is named Gladiolus, and that she is a well-known underground digital artist. Kamui was her partner for their digital works, being the real artist while Ayame was just a programmer.

3:38PM
Tokio heads to Gladiolus, and wonders what kind of woman Ayame was. He suspects that being close to Kamui affected her in some way.

9:06PM
Tokio writes that Ayame wasn't at Gladiolus and was taken into custody. He had a tabloid writer get hold of documents about her, but finds that her place of origin has been written over and is unknown. He believes Ayame is the key to understanding Kamui. He writes that the victims are somehow involved with Ayame. He emails Inohana, saying that he saw a woman killed at Babylon, and that Kamui was arrested.

Tuesday, April 13, 1999, 10:47AM
Tokio reads a news update about Kamui's arrest. After some time passes, he writes that he went to the HC Unit, which was swarmed with reporters. He wasn't able to meet with Kusabi, but spoke with another detective named Nakategawa, who proved useless. He wonders if he might be able to ask Akira about what happened at Babylon. He decides to get in contact with Enzawa again tomorrow.

Wednesday, April 14, 1999, 11:22AM
Tokio calls Enzawa, and asks him to meet to discuss Ayame.

5:13PM
Tokio meets Enzawa at Prussian, and he questions Tokio on his supposed meeting with Kamui. Tokio tells him that he didn't actually meet him, and asks what kind of woman Ayame is. Enzawa says that Ayame is special, and that she is even above Kamui due to her ability to give birth. He says that Ayame wanted to give birth to Kamui's child, and that the survival instincts of Kamui's seed tried to eliminate all other lines. Enzawa calls Ayame perfect and virtuous being. He tells Tokio that Ayame has been arrested, and he realized that she is the perpetrator.

10:03PM Tokio writes that Ayame was the true culprit behind the deaths of the three woman and the Republic members. He realizes that he never saw Kamui or Ayame with his own eyes. He emails Inohana, saying that Ayame was the killer and that her motive was jealousy. He decides to avoid talking about Babylon for now. Tokio thinks to himself that Ayame just needed a bit of security.

Thursday, April 15, 1999, 1:54PM
Tokio reads a news update confirming Ayame's identity as the killer. Erika emails him, asking to talk in the Scolba chatroom. Tokio writes that he doesn't have anything worth reporting and that he should take a trip after the Kamui Case. He writes to Inohana, going over the full details of Ayame's murders. He speculates that Ayame was calm and calculated, but had bottled up violent emotions. Her knowledge of Kamui's relationships with other women pushed her over the edge, causing her to become a Kamui copycat. He speaks to Red, saying that he's been feeding him too mush

In the Scolba chat, Tokio speaks with Erika. She finds it strange that Ayame's past has been erased, and asks him why she was as capable of killing as Kamui. Tokio says that jealously made her do it, but Erika believes that she had a deeper reason for doing it. She asks who hired him to look into Kamui, but he withholds the name. Erika tells him that they could work better together, despite her still somewhat hating him. The chat becomes corrupted and Erika is forced out. A person called The Bat joins the chat, warning Tokio to stop investigating and that Kamui is inside him.
