Kenichi Sakamoto is a character in The Silver Case. He is a member of the Special Forces Unit Republic, and serves alongside the main character, Akira.

Appearance and Personality

Sakamoto was a cool and collected member of the special forces. Despite being scared he was able to control his emotions on his first mission. A former syndicate member, he had been drained of all hope and was willing to throw his life away. He is grateful to Daigo Natsume for recruiting him, and is willing to put his life in his hands.

History

Sakamoto was originally a member of a criminal syndicate pitted against the Tsubaki Syndicate. After being assigned to kill Tsubaki himself, he recklessly fired and missed all of his shots. Immediately after he was arrested and recruited by Daigo Natsume for his special forces team Republic, alongside Haruhiko Inomata and Akira. He received training in Northern Japan with the other members, being the only one of his fellow recruits that had fired a gun before.

On January 30th, 1999, Republic was tasked with its first mission: eliminating Ryo Kazan who had retreated to the Cauliflower building. Sakamoto led the team into the building, and later he and Akira worked to locate Inomata, who had ran ahead. He and Akira encountered a hysterical Rumi Toba, who Sakamoto determined would be okay. After moving to the third floor, the two found Inomata, who had been shot in the arm by Kazan. Sakamoto told Inomata to escort Rumi out of the building. He and Akira then discovered the decapitated corpse of a young woman, after which Sakamoto vowed to kill Kazan. After reaching a locked door, Sakamoto went back after Inomata failed to respond. Sakamoto read the correct password out to Akira, after which Akira went on ahead despite Sakamoto's protest. On the roof, Sakamoto confronted Tetsugoro Kusabi after he killed Kazan, telling him he was out of line since Republic had the right to dispose of the target. He relented after being told by Daigo that Kusabi is also in a disposal group. Kusabi educated Sakamoto on the real meaning behind disposal: to erase a person's transmittable crime completely. After Rumi appeared with a gun, Sakamoto instructed Akira to shoot her.

On March 27th, Republic began to track Ayame Shimohira, believing her to be the escaped Kamui Fujiwara. The group arrived in the woods in E Ward for "Operation Secure Kamui". Sakamoto tried to calm down Inomata, telling him Kamui was just one man. He told Inomata that disposal is the same as crime, and that it is necessary to have more criminal power than the enemy. While tracking Kamui, Sakamoto's radar displayed the incorrect distance from the target. He was murdered by Ayame, using a customized harpoon gun. His corpse was later found by Akira, with its eyes gouged out.
