Kenichi Hiruma
Kenichi Hiruma is a character in The Silver Case. He is a resident of Typhoon who supposedly committed suicide.
Appearance and Personality
Hiruma is described as someone who keeps mostly to himself and rarely goes outside. Other characters often say he is creepy. Due to life-long autonomic nerve issues, Hiruma feels jealous when he sees others having fun. This jealousy is so potent that it eventually led to him attempting to murder someone.
History
Hiruma has had issues with his autonomic nerves for his entire life. At some point he began work as an advertisement artist and moved to room 301 of the Typhoon apartment complex. Due to his nerve issues Hiruma felt intense jealously after watching Koichi Sugita and Hikaru Kobayashi have fun together. On June 22nd, 1999, he chased after the two boys, possibly planning to kill them. He cornered Hikaru, who then died of a heart attack.
Out of guilt for not being able to protect his friend, Koichi thought the only way Hikaru would forgive him was if he allowed himself to be killed. On June 29th, Hiruma returned to his apartment but was unable to unlock his door due to a sticker Koichi placed over the lock. Koichi confronted him, and either through an accident or Koichi's own actions, Hiruma fell from the balcony and died. The building manager heard a noise that night, but assumed it was nothing. He later discovered Hiruma's body at 4:00am the next day.
On June 30th, detectives from the Heinous Crimes Unit arrived to investigate Hiruma's apparent suicide. Akira began meeting with Koichi and eventually learned the full story of what happened. Koichi also began meeting with Erika Yukawa, and on June 6th, gave her a letter confessing to killing Hiruma. The letter was then given to Tokio Morishima.
It is unknown what happened to Koichi after that point. According to Kiyoshi Morikawa, there is no conclusive evidence linking Koichi to Hiruma's death. Meaning he most likely avoided punishment after the incident.
