Map of Lospass Island from The Lospass guidebook

Lospass Island is the primary setting of Flower, Sun, and Rain. It is a fictitious tropical island located near the Federated States of Micronesia, and known as a popular tourist location. As described by Edo Macalister, its name is derived from the words "Lost" and "Past", a result of a unique phenomenon occurring on the island where an instance of time is continuing eternally.

Geography

The island is accessible by either direct flight to the Lospass Airport Terminal found on the southwest of the island, or by car through the Lost Highway that connects the mainland of the Federated States of Micronesia to the northern part of the island, or the Past Highway that connects to the southern portion.[1] Any petrol cars must be parked at the Bluesky Cunningham parking lot located near the airport before visitors explore the island by foot.[2]

On the northeastern side of Lospass Island is the only hotel located here: the Flower, Sun, and Rain. West of the hotel is the Canadelcazett Church, an ideal chapel for wedding ceremonies. Directly south of the hotel is the renowned Power Beach, where the Diner is located.[3]

Located on the north side of the island is the Business Tower, a lighthouse with the best view on Lospass. West of here is the Spice Shop, which serves all of the grocery needs for tourists and residents alike. Following the road to the center of the island past the wheat fields leads to the Randelman Garden, a former English-style garden that was eventually left to grow unchecked. While difficult to navigate, the field guides by the Forest Navigator machines assist in traversal. Past the garden lies the Ruins of Marmaleba, an indigineous ruin that is the source of many legends of Lospass Island.[4]

Southeast of Lospass Island exists the smaller and deserted Eleki Island. It is only accessible via a Jetty from Power Beach. There exists a cave here that leads to the Stranded Ship northeast of the island, an American research vessel that ran aground due to some unknown incident.[5]

History

Lospass Island's indigenous inhabitants comprised of multiple tribes, most notably were the Sundance Tribe of herders that raised a special breed of Hyenas that occasionally developed a Silver eye, for which other tribes attacked them due to a belief that their hyenas were cursed. Other than sometime in the 19th century when Europeans discovered the island, the status quo remained unchanged until Uminosuke Hachisuka arrived on the island and stole a Silver eye for himself.
