At some point in his police career, he also had a mentor-and-student relationship with [[Ryu Munakata]], who taught him the secrets of death-filing. When left to his own devices, not only did he violently kill civilians and deliverymen alike, he was also targeted by the [[Okiai hitmen]]. Shiro disappeared from the Unit, and continued investigating Kurumizawa's actions, tracing them back to the mayor, [[Kenichiro Mikoshiba]]. He met with Hatoba at one of the mayor's rallies, and assured him that he wasn't going to kill the mayor and to give him more time to move freely. Later Shiro would confront Uehara and seemingly kill him, believing him to be Kamui. Shiro wandered the city, pondering the nature of Kamui and how to contact him. Using his powers to track Kamui's "point", Shiroyabu was led to the city hall, where he found the dead body of Mikoshiba. Kurumizawa revealed himself to Shiro, taunting him and discussing his new existence. After a chime sounds, which Kurumizawa claims is Kamui's "ringtone", he prepared to switch places with Shiroyabu, before exploding into particles.
